Benefits of using carbon brushes

Using carbon brushes provides good commutation and acts as lubricator and enables high consistency even at an extreme condition. It helps in good data transmission and is beneficial for carbon-based material for good performance. This helps in low maintenance expenditure, which is highly economical in service. Data transfer occurs with specialized electric brushes, Jcb carbon brushes, carbon brushes, motor brushes, electric mechanical brushes, or ordinary brushes.

How do brushes help in a DC motor?

Machines need motors to operate in good condition. Carbon brushes play a key role in DC motors enabling commutation. It transfers current from the rotating part of the electric motor. DC motor consists of more than one carbon brush with various terminals. Almost all the components help in conducting electric current between the moving parts and the static parts as well. For more effective functioning and for heavy use, consider evolution carbon brushes.

Grade-based use of brushes

Use of type of brushes depend on the base material. For example, electric brushes are categorized into several groups:
Amorphous carbon - used in electro-plating tools and suitable for small motors with high-speed revolutions.
Electro-Graphite - used for loading machines equipped with special material for unremitting different current motors such as generators and electric motors for effective functioning. The coils of the motor should be connected to complete an electrical circuit.

Major advantages of using carbon brushes

Let us see the 5 main advantages of using carbon brushes.

Feature a high melting point

Compared to copper and other materials, these brushes have high melting point with 3550-degree centigrade melting temperature. In a DC motor, the brush is connected to the commutator and chances of spark and friction occur when the motor functions. Carbon brushes can withstand this friction and heat.

Comprised of soft metal

The brushes are made of very soft metal, which does not damage the commutator during friction.

Featuring a negative temperature co-efficient

With negative temperature co-efficient, when there is an increase in the temperature, the resistance is reduced.

Flexibility

Brushes usually adopt to shapes due to the softness in material. When fixed with a commutator, it takes the shape of it.

Acts as a self-lubricator

It acts as a self-lubricator and does not require to grease or lubricate the motor.
